1. CLEAR WHITE LIGHT - PART TWO

Do you believe
The clear white light
Is going to guide us on?

Running along the ground singing a song in the morning light
Follow flowery fields as far as out of sight
Turning your head to the clouds and the skies and the trees
'Cause you never know what you might see.

Do you believe
The clear white light
Is going to guide us on
The way?

Seeing the sun as it wants to be seen by ev'ryone
Melting the sky throw a hole in your eye where the magic comes
Turning your heads to the skies with the clouds in your eyes
'Cause you never know what you might find

Do you believe
The clear white light
Is going to guide us on
The way?

Now is the time to be loving and kind to your fellow men
Seeing the sympathy starting out all over again
Now is the time to give love just one more go
'Cause you never know what you might know

And I believe
The clear white light
Is going to guide us on

Yes I believe
The clear white light
Is going to guide us on

2. KNACKERS YARD BLUES

You keep on running but I'm left behind
I need a white stick 'cos I walk so blind
I'm like a bandage on a wooden leg
I feel hung up just like a coat on a peg

I bought some pictures to hang on my wall
But I like a change so I moved them all
But nothing ever changes in the human race
I can get another mirror but it's still the same old face

You used to tell me there was nothing I lacked
You took it all and left me stretched on your rack
You took my money and you took all my clothes
I need you like I need a cold in my nose

You took my armchair and you took my settee
You took my breakfast and you came back for tea
You took my socks and now you're smoking in bed
I need you like I need a hole in the head

3. LADY ELEANOR

Banshee playing magician sitting lotus on the floor
Belly dancing beauty with a power driven saw
Had my share of nightmares, didn't think there could be much more
Then in walked Rodrick Usher with the Lady Eleanor

She tied my eyes with ribbon of a silken ghostly thread
I gazed with trouble vision on an old four poster bed
Where Eleanor had risen to kiss the neck below my head
And bid me come along with her to the land of the dancing dead

But it's all right, Lady Eleanor
All right, Lady Eleanor
I'm all right where I am

She gazed with loving beauty like a mother to a son
Like living, dying, seeing, being all rolled into one
Then all at once I heard some music playing in my bones
The same old song I'd heard for years, reminding me of home

But it's all right, Lady Eleanor
All right, Lady Eleanor
I'm all right where I am

Then creeping on towards me, licking lips with tongues of fire
A host of golden demons screaming lust and base desire
And when it seemed for certain that the screams could get no higher
I heard a voice above the rest screaming 'You're a liar'

But it's all right, Lady Eleanor
All right, Lady Eleanor
I'm all right here in your arms

4. NOTHING BUT THE MARVELLOUS IS BEAUTIFUL

Nah, nah
Nah, nanna, nanna, nah
Na, nanna, nanna, nun, nah

Sitting on a fence in the middle of the afternoon
Trying to get silly, but it's not working out too well (too well)
Well, well, I just can't tell
If I should go (go), if I should stay (stay)
so I'll just close my eyes and drift away

When you're feeling pretty low and you just don't know
And in which direction you're going
If you shut your eyes and you don't really try
Then you know without really knowing
That's what I heard though it sounds absurd
To a thinking man like you
Well I've got no head for big plans
Instead I think that's what I'll do

Nah, nah
Nah, nanna, nanna, nah
Na, nanna, nanna, nun, nah

Walking down the street trying to keep my feet from misery
Not looking at the people 'cause they're not looking back at me (at me)
Maybe they just can't see
Or think or even feel, maybe they're even unreal (real)
So what can I do now the way I feel?

When you're feeling pretty low and you just don't know
And in which direction you're going
If you shut your eyes and you don't really try
Then you know without really knowing
That's what I heard though it sounds absurd
To a thinking man like you
Well I've got no head for big plans
Instead I think that's what I'll do

Nah, nah
Nah, nanna, nanna, nah
Na, nanna, nanna, nun, nah

5. MEET ME ON THE CORNER

Hey Mr Dreamseller, where have you been?
Tell me have you dreams I can see?
I came along, just to bring you this song
Can you spare one dream for me?

You won't have met me, and you'll soon forget me
So don't mind me tugging at your sleeve.
I'm asking you if I can fix a rendezvous.
For your dreams are all I believe

Meet me on the corner when the lights are coming on
And I'll be there, I promise I'll be there
Down the empty streets we'll disappear until the dawn
If you have dreams enough to share

Lay down your bundles of rags and reminders
And spread your wares on the ground
Well I've got time, if you deal in rhyme
I'm just hanging around

Meet me on the corner when the lights are coming on
And I'll be there, I promise I'll be there
Down the empty streets we'll disappear until the dawn
If you have dreams enough to share

Hey Mr Dreamseller, where have you been?
Tell me have you dreams I can see?
I came along, just to bring you this song
Can you spare one dream for me?

6. SCOTCH MIST

(Instrumental)

7. NO TIME TO LOSE

I want to go travelling in your car, leave all the city behind
Up on the motorway Scotland's not far, see what we can find.

No time, no time to lose
No time, no time to lose

Had more than my share of people giving advice, on the way that my life should be
But look at the country man it's looking so nice, it's feeling so good to be free.

No time, no time to lose
No time, no time to lose

Man how I love all those wild rolling hills, I can feel them inside of my loves,
The colours all changing I swear it's amazing, I feel like I'm flying back home.

No time, no time to lose
No time, no time to lose
No time, no time to lose
No time, no time to lose

8. ALL FALL DOWN

Councilors, magistrates, men of renown,
Who needs to live in a dirty old town.
Yes, go on, tear it down.

Who need the trees and the flowers to grow,
We can have a motorway with motorway dough,
I know I know I know, they've got to go.

Tear them down, mess them round,
Make a mockery of all of the ground,
And if you ever have a sleepless night,
Just count out your money, it'll be all right.

Politicians, planners go, look what you done,
Your madness is making a machine of ev'ryone,
But one day the machine might turn on.

We'll tear you down, mess you round,
And bury you deep under the ground,
And we'll dance on your graves till the flowers return
And the trees tell us secrets that took ages to learn,

We'll tear you down, mess you round,
Bury you deep under the ground,
And we'll dance on your graves till the flowers return
And the trees tell us secrets that took ages to learn,
We'll tear you down.

9. WE CAN SWING TOGETHER

No-one came to criticize, no-one to complain,
Just to pass a little bit of time, play some human games.
Some were smoking 'roll your owns', while others they had none,
Ev'rybody was holding hands, and singing this little song.

We can swing together, 'cause we feel we're doing it right.
We can swing together, we can swing all through the night.

Then when things were happening, around about ten to four,
There was a screeching of brakes, dogs barking outside, and a hammering on the door.
Then the voice of officialdom, saying 'Open in the name of the law',
But we just kept on holding hands, and singing this song some more.

We can swing together, 'cause we feel we're doing it right.
We can swing together, we can swing all through the night.

Then they broke down all the doors, and kicked the windows in,
They let their doggies off the leads, and they ransacked everything.
They stood us all against the wall, their faces split with grins,
And then they linked each others' handcuffs and they merrily began to sing.

We can swing together, 'cause we feel we're doing it right.
We can swing together, we can swing all through the night.

They took us to see the County Judge, with a wig-hat on his head,
He heard our case with a smile on his face, and this is what he said:
I'll have to send you all to jail, for doing this terrible thing.
And as I walked down to the cells, I swear I heard him sing.

We can swing together, 'cause we feel we're doing it right.
We can swing together, we can swing all through the night....

10. COURT IN THE ACT

Got the summons served on a Sunday, see what I done
Couldn't see much sense in the charges, but they sure sounded like fun.
So I went downtown to a Bow Street, to see the company man,
'Hey boy your in a heap of trouble, but i'll do everything that I can'.

But the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact (man that's a fact)
And the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact
You shouldn't let yourself never get caught in the act.

Sorry for the damage i've done, try to pay it back
The only crime I ever committed was being caught in the act.
So the next time that you feel good don't forget the fact
There's a man in blue and he wants you to be, be caught in the act.

And the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact (man that's a fact)
And the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact
Hope that you never get caught in the act.

And the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact (man that's a fact)
And the judge is a grudge man, and that's a fact
Hope that you never get caught in the act.
Hope that you never get caught in the act.

11. DON'T ASK ME

Nothing can stop you from doing anything you choose,
Nothing's gonna stop you if you really wanna play the blues,
But noone's gonna like it if you make more than you lose.
Well you can come on down and you can see the show
You can come on up and you can have blow
But don't ask me how to get there, I don't know.

Pack up your suitcase, pick up your old guitar
Wave goodbye and jump in the company car,
They've seen your picture and they want to know who you are.
Well you can come on down and you can have a blow
You can come on up and you can steal the show
But don't ask me how it happened, I don't know.

Well you can push, shove, lose your long time friends
You might make money, but you'll never quite make amends,
When you're drowned in the vacuum of the one-eyed TV lens.
Well you can fly on up and you can make the show
You can watch it come and you can watch it go
But don't ask me what it feels like, I don't know.

So pack up your cases and hide in your big black car
Put on a new face pick up your old guitar,
Is there anybody there but who doesn't know who you are.
Well you can watch it come and you can see it go
Then you can come on down and we can have a blow
But don't ask me who are you are, 'cos I won't know.
I won't know
I won't know
I won't know

12. TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

A long time ago, in 1965 or so
I met a man with a face that was a real disgrace
Pictures he took and put them in a little book
So ambitious was he, he even took a picture of me.

Then one day he opened up a studio (start recording now)
Tried to make it pay, making hit records or no
And he asked me along write him a little song
I get the studio free, just sign this paper for me.

You got to take good care of business, my friend
Take good care of yourself
You got to take good care of business, my friend
Otherwise you'll end up on the shelf.

Oh yeah.

Later on, after I wrote that song
Even heard it played up on Radio One (Radio One)
Manager said : 'Money all gone away'
You spent it, you see, up and down the country.

You got to take good care of business, my friend
Take good care of yourself
You got to take good care of business, my friend
Otherwise you'll end up on the shelf.

Well, I started to say, I mean we've got to play
What else can I do ? We're not clever like you.
Then said he : 'You know how I'm fair’
You can sign to the company for another ten years.

You got to take good care of business, my friend
Take good care of yourself
You got to take good care of business, my boys
Otherwise you'll end up on the shelf.

13. NORTH COUNTRY BOY

I'm just an ordinary north country man
I had a dream that bid me come here
Although naïve, I thought that I'd make my way
But fair weather friends is all that I had.

They took from me all that I had to give
Replenished me with their reason
Don't you talk to me about your sacrifice
Then ask of me if I'm leaving.

I'm going down to the water today
I got to wash away my sorrow
I'm going down to the water today
I gotta get me clean by tomorrow.

I'm just an ordinary north country man
My dream has edges that are fading
This year that's passed, it's not such a waste
It's just a hard way to be learning.

We've got no choice in the life that we're born to
Our only choosing is in its living
Now people in their own time will show just that they are
I hope this time I know who I am.

I'm going down to the water today
I’ve got to wash away my sorrow
I'm going down to the water today
I gotta get me clean by tomorrow.

I’m gotta get me clean
I’m gotta get me clean
I’m gotta get me clean
I’m gotta get me clean.

14. FOG ON THE TYNE

Sittin' in a sleazy snack-bar suckin'
Sickly sausage rolls
Slippin' down slowly
Slippin' down sideways
Think I'll sign off the dole

[Chorus]
'Cause the fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine

Could a copper catch a crooked coffin maker
Could a copper comprehend
That a crooked coffin maker is just an undertaker who
undertakes to be a friend

[Chorus]

Tell the truth tomorrow
Today will take it's time to
Tell you what tonight will bring,
Presently we'll have a pint or two together
Everybody do their thing

We can swing together
We can have a wee wee
We can have a wet on the wall
If someone slips a whisper
That his simple sister slapped them down
And they slavered on their smalls

[Chorus](x2)

15. MANDOLIN KING

Listen to the mandolin king, doing his own special thing,
Strumming his strings, singing his songs
And when he sings he wants to sing along.

La, la, la, la, la, ...

Anything you ever wanted, he can make come real,
Depending on how you feel, according to what you do,
Because you know that in the end it's up to you.

So Listen to the mandolin king, doing his own special thing,
Strumming his strings, singing his songs
And when he sings you all sing along.

So shut your eyes and picture empty skies all around
And listen for the sound, of magic in the air
And when you do then you know the mandolin king will be there.

Listen to the mandolin king, doing his own special thing,
Strumming his strings, singing his songs
And when he sings you all sing along.

Ev'rybody, La, la, la, la, la, ...
