Biografie : Lucid Fly

Lucid Fly was born following a chain of events happening on September 26, 1996. It was the day astronaut Shannon Lucid stepped out of the U.S. space shuttle Atlantis. Lucid was trapped in her space station and unable to return to earth because of a hurricane; in doing so she set the record for the longest stay in space by any U.S. astronaut and by any woman in the world! The newspaper headline read: “Lucid Flies into the record book!” The lead singer of Lucid Fly, (Nikki) was talking with a friend of hers who read the headline out loud. It struck a chord with her and the other members of Lucid Fly. At that time, they were one of the few heavier alternative/rock bands fronted by a female vocalist. It was a time of exploration and discovery; they felt a connection to Shannon Lucid and pioneered the name Lucid Fly!

In the midst of chaos we often find out what we are made of, and some of us, the lucky ones, awake enough to recognize our purpose. Lead singer Nikki and guitarist Doug met in 1998, through a musician want ad in a Florida magazine. The chemistry was instant. For the next several years, they jammed with various musicians, recorded their first EP, and played around the southeast, including SXSW in Austin in 2006. In 2007, they moved to L.A. where they found a drummer (Aaron) and bassist (Go) that met their kind of energy and chemistry. After writing together for over a year, 5 songs were picked to record their new EP The Escape Stage.

The new EP resonates with an addictive arrangement of charmingly mysterious songs and melodies. The meaning of The Escape Stage literally is that moment when an object (usually a rocket) breaks free from the earth's gravitational pull and enters a free fall in space. It takes so much energy to get to that point, but once in space, it's virtually effortless to move around. The songs on the EP gracefully explore our core emotions, allowing us to freely surrender to our deepest unconsciousness.

At some point, we all stand alone and ask ourselves: “what is my purpose and why am I here?” We go through life waiting on a lucid moment to conquer the fear we are challenged by and breathe purpose into our being. So many of us are waiting to take chances, waiting to be driven, and searching for whatever can fill our unexplainable voids. Every human being has a purpose, a passion. In the end, we ultimately choose the destiny that destroys us or saves us; we set ourselves up for defeat or we break free and make plans for our own “escape stage.”
